We had a light dinner. Food was excellent - high quality and freshly prepared. Service in the restaurant was good. One area to improve - stop calling hours before a reservation to confirm the appointment and on the dot at the time of reservation when the customer has not showed up, especially when the restaurant was not even a quarter filled when I walked in 10 minutes late and was about a third filled when I walked out an hour later. 1. It's 2019 - I made a reservation on an app that reminds me to show up; I do not need a reminder call. Restaurant should also make sure person who makes such calls speaks clearly, especially since there will be many foreign guests at this establishment. Else, try a text - this new technology really works. 2. I really do not see the point of hassling a guest when the restaurant is not even a quarter filled; most restaurants also have a 15-minute hold allowance. Overall: Love the food, hate the badgering.
Excellent, authentic Peranakan food with friendly and attentive staff. Definitely a place to come back to again and again.
A pretty satisfying dinner but I think I over ordered. For 4 pax, we had the duck teem (soup), beef cheek rendang (it's so good), sambal stingray (do order!), 4 angled bean salad (spicy.. beware!) and sotong sambal (acceptable). Additionally we had 6 drinks and the sago gula melaka (1 portion to share). Royally stuffed. Downside is they didn't have the fresh fruit juice hence had to order the chilled juices (bottled). For 4 pax the total bill came up to SGD218. Tip 1 - The restaurant is right next to the lobby. Hence if you are looking for a more restaurant-ly place (with proper 4 walls and partitioned from other guest) might want to give this place a pass. Tip 2 - Plenty of local Singaporeans in groups (younger crowd around 20s and 30s) eating here. Very suited for communal food eating.
The food is very nice but I don't think it would satisfy a purist. The chef did a wonderful job in putting his touches into the traditional dishes
They were unaware of our reservation. The service was slow. Our cocktails were very slow and arrived after we had begun eating. The food was not anything special
Loved the food. Will be back! Quality food with lots of love
The beef cheek rendang literally melts in your mouth and I will go back just for that. Crab meatball soup was just as good. The rests were just mediocre.
Enjoyed Bakwan soup, sayoh lodeh pilot hitam and koswee . Can rate 5 Otah good so rate 4. Ayam goreng and chap chye a little dry so give a 3.
Good Peranakan food, though slightly expensive. Service can be improved
My second time here, first time had a few hits and misses, so does this time. Service need to be improved Babi Assam - Must Order Buah Keluah Fried Rice - Not as good as the previous time I came Noodle of the Day - Like Hokkien Mee. Nice but tad salty 4 Angled Salad - Must Order BBQ Sambal Stingray - Not worth the price of $40++ Sambal Squid - Spicy Goodness Ngoh Hiang - Don't Order Curry Capitang - Not bad Seafood Otah - Must Order Chap Chye - Not Bad Kueh Kosui - Hit and Misses Kueh Bengkah - Must Order Sago Gula Melaka - Hit and Misses
Great food, highly recommend the beef cheeks. Gulam Melaka desserts was very good as well. Soup, I had the duck previously, and the balls soup this time, both were great!
Very home cooked feel to the Peranakan dishes! The desserts are also melt-in-your mouth yummy! Will be returning soon this time with my family 😍
Good food, charming ambience. Very nice place to with family. Be sure to try the Buah Keluak, Beef rendang, Kueh Kosui, Kueh Bengkah and Chap Chye
Brought a friend from Thailand to Folkflore and she really enjoyed the fantastic peranakan food. Awesome place to bring friends from overseas to enjoy local food
This is my first time here. The food is simply palatable. All the dishes are tasty. The rice portion is particularly big. Service is good too.
Went there on a Saturday evening. Folklore didn't disappoint. Eurasian hubby said this is the best Eurasian after his granny's cooking. I agree. Honest food, good portion and earnest service. Well done!
Interesting food selection available. food taste close to what grandma would have done. We liked the buah keluak fried rice, sambal sweet potatoes leaves and ngoh hiang. the fish "flakes" was a little disappointing though. Overall, we enjoyed the food.
Great recommendations from server and friendly and accommodating attitude towards sharing plates. Food was very authentic and wholesome very well balanced. Desserts were yummy too
Food was excellent & enjoyed the food thoroughly. Was a party of 9 and the service staff was average though & not as attentive as expected .
The food was good but not great. Could be because we over-ordered and took home doggy bags they were kind enough to pack for us. The best was the wing-bean salad - very sedap!
every dish was superb! the buakalak fried rice was the best and is a must have! great service too! the only downside was that there was not enough parking in the hotel itself so we had to park next door.
Fantastic good with great desserts. The food is reasonably priced and definitely worth the price. Service is generally good but some how we had a long wait for our desserts.
Really good food but be prepared to wait. The food does take awhile to be cooked. Highlight was the Pulut Hitam dessert with longan and the chap Chye.
Simple restaurant setting but food quality and taste was best-in-class! I loved the Peranakan cum Eurasian flavours and compliments to the chef. I would certainly return!
Food is interesting and good, staff is friendly and professional, the decor and ambience is nice and appealing, and Destination hotel is easily accessible. Would come back again.
The food never ceases to satisfy. The Prawn with Pineapple was so delish, I had to stop myself from slurping it all up, and the Kueh Kosui was simply the best!
We love the food especially the desserts . The Sambal Buah Keluak Fried Rice, Kueh Kosui and Baked custard with pudding are really good. However, the 4 Angled Bean Salad is too spicy. The staff is friendly and efficient.
Great food and place, some dishes are too spicy but shiok! The place interior looks very nice ad cozy. Will introduce to friends and Definitely will visit again.
A business lunch with a big group of clients. Perhaps due to peak hour, the dishes came later than expected. Overall the food was really delicious
Food and deserts were very good. Nice ambience. Good value set lunch. Service needs to be improved, as staff seemed untrained and were unfamiliar with the menu.
Overall food quality was ok but: Buffet selection was limited thus not really worth the money. Not all of the food items were ready at the start of dinner. There was no station for the chendol and I had to ask the staff whether it was being served. There was no indication that customers had to place an order for the chendol. Seems like the staff are not familiar with the ingredients for chendol as mine arrived without any gula melaka. Had to wait for another 5 minutes to get it added to my dessert. Soup selection was good though. I don’t think I will be visiting this place again for Peranakan food.
There were some excellent dishes, including the buak keluak fried rice and the Assam fish. The beef rendang was a bit too spicy for me. We also enjoyed the pulot hitam.
second time back at this place and food was good as usual, especially the chap chye. however they were short of staff and made the dining experience somewhat disappointing. hope they can improve on that.
Good place to bring friends from abroad and to introduce them to #peranankan food. The balance of spices is perfect. Might be spicy for those who are not used to chilli.
All gd. Food gd. Service gd. Ambience gd. However food pricing can b lowered to reflect better value to somewhat equate choice of ingredients used.
V good food. Favor is v unique. Serving of food & service was good except dessert time we hv to wait 20 mins for it.
