More about the restaurant: Rice & Fries

Grains of rice, golden fries – staples in many a person’s diet. If you’re in Singapore and looking for a carbohydrate fix of this kind, then Changi Road’s Rice & Fries is the spot for you to get your hit. Then again, mash, fries, and buttery rice are really only sideshows to the main events here. Rice & Fries’ menu, simple as it is, presents a smorgasbord of western and international-style dishes geared towards homely, comfort food.

Thinking about making a Rice & Fries booking?

Singapore’s Rice & Fries was born of the growling belly of former Ritz Carlton, Crowne Plaza, and Fullerton hotel chef Ken Chia. Wanting to take his passion for hearty, internationally-inspired food to the masses, and remain closer to his family in his beloved Changi neighbourhood, Ken decided to take things down a notch and open up a diner where everyone can enjoy the food that he and his kids like to chow down on. Rice & Fries’ Changi Road diner stays close to the kampung philosophy – good food, friendly service, in a down-home environment.

Like we mentioned before, Rice & Fries is too modest a title. This kampung-style eatery (family-friendly and no GST charges!) is, after all, run by a stellar chef with major hotel kitchen experience under his apron. Weird and wonderful international and western dishes dot the menu: forest mushroom cappuccino soup (with a side of ratatouille?), racks of ribs with BBQ sauce (and, yes, potato wedges), and classic rosemary roast chicken (that’s chic Ken, a sly nod to Rice & Fries’ owner and chef, and best served with a side of butter rice or mash). There’s something for all the family at this Changi Road restaurant, but many in Singapore are just happy to order up a basket of Rice & Fries’ B.F.F. – four types of fries – shoestring, criss-cross, wedges, and truffle fries with special four-season sauces. You and Rice & Fries: best friends forever.
