A little pricey. Alot of the dishes are over price with small serving even though I order Large portion. They charge for everything, even the belachan is being charged which I think it should be complimentary. How to eat Pernankan food without belacyhan ?? The Ngoh Hiang is a little starchy.
Excellent refined peranakan - one of the best buah keluak stews n superb pork satay and yellow curry crab. Awesome desserts .
One of the best peranakan restaurants in Singapore. Must visit!
it was a pleasant experience the restaurant staff took care of me very well
Very good food and very good location. We like it.
Food was good but rather pricey. Good ambience, nice dinner place with friends
Nice ambience and food. Great service! Will come back again.
Great food, nice place! The staff are friendly and helpful.
Excellent service, great food. Book in advance as this restaurant became popular after the Michelin star.
Good food! Service was good too. Would go back again!
Very nice Peranakan place. Food was good overall. For us it was a new experience and introduction to Peranakan ingredients and flavours. Overall quite a nice place.
Very Good, third time here in three months, best restaurant solution for any visiting friends who would like to experience local yet sophisticated food. Test test test tes
Only hiccup was kueh pie tee shells being very soggy. They offered to replace one w a freshly made piece and the difference was night and day. We told them that we couldn't pay for the item as what we initially got was sub par, they obliged. All other dishes were good, appreciate the effort to make the different rempah stand out from each other and the thought behind the layers of flavours
Great service, interesting and good food, wonderful ambience! I'm definitely thinking of bringing my parents back to Candlenut. Thank you guys for the great experience!
Great food and great service. It was our second visit but first to new venu which is very nice. Good variety of dishes on the menu.
Overall we had a good dinner. Great food, nice space, waiter taking our orders was helpful. But guys bringing food had no idea and kept on mixing up orders with table next to us. Simple thing to fix.
Fantastic ambience. Love the vibe of the new location in Como dempsey. Given that we had a table of multiple people with dietary restrictions, the chef was attentive to our needs and detailed in his delivery of food. We ordered the tasting menu $88 which was really wholesome and worth it. The flower crab curry and buah keluak ice cream stood out the most for me. Was expecting to be digging out the nut from the ayam buah keluak dish (my favourite Peranakan dish) but the chef has already done the job, which was just as fine. Also the service is very hospitable and friendly.
great ambience and decor, fast service, food portion was small but very good. you may need to order more if you are more people. buah keluak ice cream was quite innovative. must try blue swimmer, babi pongteh
Food was very good. Service could have been better. I arrived 5 mins before my booking at 1:30 pm, the 1st thing the lady at reception told us was: "we have been trying to call you since last night." What 's the big deal? We arrived on time as per our booking?
The must tries of the restaurant are its buah keluah fried rice and blue swimmer crab curry. For dessert, go for the buah keluah ice cream with its unique taste that has a tinge of spiciness.
Food was excellent; we had the ahmakase ave everything was delicious. Service was warm and pleasant, but we encountered a few wait staff who were not as familiar with the menu as others.
Loved the atmosphere. Food was great and service was quick and terrific. Will definitely come back again. Desserts are highly recommended, especially the chendol cream
Great food, ambience and lovely settings. The staff were attentive and helpful. However, location is an issue, especially, it rained that evening, so it was not easy to leave.
Food was good, service was attentive, and the space was well designed. My only gripe is that they charged us for belachan as I had expected condiments to be served free of charge.
Yummy food, good service, in a nice new place. The squid ink dish was particularly good. The chocolate buah Kelua ice cream was very interesting & delicious! The only downside is the relatively small serving size for peranakan food, but we spent $55 each for lunch which perhaps is not too bad for a Michelin star restaurant!
All the dishes I had were tasty, with flavours well balanced and not overpowering. The waitstaff were helpful and polite. I'll recommend Candlenut to friends and family.
Great food, great service, unique space. Chef Malcolm is innovative with Peranakan cuisine and create refreshing interpretations. The old Dempsey warehouse space although large is made intimate with the clever use of an interesting light feature.
Awesome food and vibe. We had Ngoh hiang, swimmer crab curry, bush keluak fried rice, grilled prawn and all of them were awesome. Durian dessert was particularly rich.
The staff were excellent, the service was fast, maybe too fast for a dining experience. We ordered the crispy pork belly which wasn't available so then ordered the pork neck satay which was tasty, not your usual satay. We also ordered the ocean trout small bite which was a subtle taste sensation. We followed these with the local squid with squid ink and tamarind. I found the flavor in this too overpowering for the squid. I love tamarind but to me it the taste was too heavy handed. We then had the crab curry which was delicious. The chocolate and chilli dessert was sublime and my favorite dish of the evening. I would recommend going for tasteful, light, Peranakan food.
impeccable service and excellent food. had a surprise birthday request and they were very responsive to my request. would definitely come back again to try the other stuff on the menu.
Candlenut has since moved from its previous location at Dorsett to a sparkling new venue at Como Dempsey. Whilst the lighting, fixtures, and decor definitely added points to the general ambience, my visit to the establishment had been somewhat marred by intermittent service, and hit-and-miss dishes. It is said that it is often harder, and hence, more stressful to retain the Michelin star than to earn a first one. With that in mind, Candlenut would have a long year ahead of them.
The venue is amidst greenery, not too difficult to access. Ambience of the restaurant is nice with apt deco to complement the food! Food is of good quality with autentic taste.
Standard droped. Sad to see food are not as good as before. Services are good. Food price is too high. Should change menu from time to time.
Good Peranakan food and excellent service at a great location
We ordered the Wing Bean Salad, Bakwan Kepiting, Sambal Kang Kong, Beef Cheek Rendang, Assam Sotong, Yellow Coconut Crab Curry, and Durian Soup. There wasn't a dish we didn't love!
It was an exceptionally amazing meal. I would say this is a "must" go to restaurant while in Singapore. I can't wait to go back!
Great quality of ingredients and attractive presentation. Unfortunately the new location is still under renovation, therefore the restaurant has a very temporary / pop-up feel.
Setting is casual but very chic and modern. Staff helpful but not obstrusive. Food respects its Peranakan roots with authenticity in its ingredients but gives it a nice little twist or zing to challenge your palate and surprises you. For serious Peranakan cognoscenti, do ala carte and not omakase.
Beautiful facility. Great Paranakan menu - every dish authentic and delicious. Servers eager to answer questions and provide service at all levels. Not easy to find for the first time. Keep looking.
It was good; most of the dishes were outstanding, except the "ngoh Hiang"; the dessert were too "westernised" and expensive. Service could have been better
Good service, pleasant ambience. Pity they are moving! The desserts were great and the dishes we chose were well prepared. Hope they don't change their formula and prices when that start anew.
Delicious authentic Peranakan dishes, impeccable service by wait staff Felix, owner and head chef Malcolm went above and beyond to serve us his amahkase 10-course dinner menu when I requested last minute at lunch! Will definitely visit again in my next Singapore trip, but will be at the new Dempsey location.
Authentic, delicious perankan food. Would highly recommend most dishes. Particular highlights include the crab curry, buah keluak dishes and the rendang. Also worth ordering their solid homemade drinks
Great food, great service & casual ambience. Reasonable price. Portion might be small. I guess this will make you order few more dishes. Overall worth to visit this restaurant.
Very nice Peranakan food, and unfortunately very difficult to book dinner for their Ah-ma-kase! But try anyway, because you'll be rewarded with wholesome homely delicious food.
The food was great and the portion size was reasonable! Dessert was unique.. The chendol was rich in flavour! Really loved the ambience! Keep it up!
Candlenut really serves Great tasting peranakan food! Will definitely visit again in the future, and try the other dishes. Interesting desserts were available as well.
As usual, it was a very pleasant experience. Ambience was nice but the highlight was definitely the food. In particular, what stood out to me was that you could really taste the freshness of the ingredients used. Thanks Malcolm!
Absolutely sensational food. I got giddier and giddier with each bite. Not for the faint of heart, because some of the later courses are PURE FIRE, but damn, those flavors are incredible. Can't wait to go back.
Very average. Expected far more after the Michelin star rating. There's probably much better peranakan food elsewhere, was honestly quite disappointed with the entire experience.
