Food was good but slightly on the high side but was expected.
Ambience is good. Love how the place is nicely spaced out. Food is yummy too. Price is on the higher price point but acceptable.
One of the places I prefer when eating at Esplanade. Prices have gone up over the years but the food is still good.
Good food. Make sure to make a reservations esp on concert nights.
The food was great but could have even more option's! will come back again
Food was ok, service was average and choice was very limited. For such pricing (just 2 pax, no alcohol, >$60+/pax), I would believe that the service should be better and taste-wise a little better than average. Was there for convenience, probably wouldn’t make another trip there if given a choice.
Outside seating has a nice ambience, but the food is average.
Ramen was delicious Limited choices of food but very short handed so be prepared to wait
I remember they used to have a wide variety of food selection but when I went there again after Covid-19, I was disappointed to find that their food selection had dwindled to only a few options.
Food was ok, drinks were good! Would come back for the drinks!
Food was good. Service and location are good too. Will go back
Love the makis and the wide selection of dishes to go with beer.
Enjoyed my dining experience yesterday ... great food and good service
Rather slow service, but it was a busy Saturday evening before a show and it looked like there was just one chef. Service staff were polite and apologetic about the wait. We had a few wrong dishes sent wrongly to our table that we had to turn away - it bothered me that the food got so close to us as we were talking before we could turn it away - because, hygiene for the food’s actual customers is important! Food was okay; skewers were nicely done
Food is ok....nut noise level ....service a bit slow but still ok
Good yakitori and sashimi. Grilled cod fish goes well with extensive sake list.
Ordered a $20 gyu appetizer which was really bad. Avoid. It had some sort of pink sauce on top. Chicken Kaarage was good but Chirashi Don was also not filling at all. Went with a friend to celebrate her birthday and restaurant did not have candles, which is understandable, but they did not even have the courtesy of giving us a free dessert. Overall, worst $100 I ever spent for 2 people, no alcohol.
Food was delicious and the hot sake was wonderful too. Edamame stir fry was quite an inspired choice. Service staff were a little inattentive even though the restaurant wasn’t super busy
Staff were a bit overwhelmed on a busy Friday night. You’re paying for a convenient location next to the theatre and marina, but food didn’t taste all that fresh and limited fish portion on the rice bowl and chirashi plates.
Food was more than decent but being understaffed and long waiting times compromised the experience.
The squid fried rice was little disappointing, other than that, everything was good! Will be back someday
The service staff are attentive, food was very good. We will be back for more.
My Japanese guest love the restaurant and enjoyed their visit. Your sashimi is very fresh.
Had the Chirashi Don. They are super generous with the sashimi slices. Slices are thick and good. Value for money. Service is quick and good as well. Will definitely visit again!
Good and fast service! Had the tempura udon noodles which was crispy yet not oily!
Great place to hang out with friend(s) to share food/drinks. Might be hard getting attention of service staff if you're seated way outside (although the ambience is better, if weather conditions are good).
My second visit to Tomo Izakaya. Food and service from staff were both great. Spacious dining area and definitely a good venue for meals and drinks.
Variety of food and beverages is wide. Ambience is not as rowdy as Harry's which is just beside. Service is commendable. Will go back again.
Food came very late, very delay and we nearly cancelled our order
Food is pretty nice & reasonably priced. Cozy environment too!
It is one of my usual go-to place for a quick and light bite before a show at the Esplanade - Theatres By The Bay.
Service is patchy even though the restaurant is not too busy on a Saturday night. A lot of variety for food selection but can't say they are of high quanlity, just mediocre. Makes for a convenient meal if catching a show at Esplanade.
Food is alright, but the price is too high to pay for such quality. The ambience is quiet and comfortable, staff service is good too.
nice food and good environment. recommended couples who just want to spend some time having dinner together after a long day at work. food came hot too.
Staffs are friendly, food are acceptable as well. Not busy for Hump's day night. Food generally good, like most of their grilled food (like chicken liver and some asparagus wrapped in bacon) , gyoza and garlic fried rice. Their beef cubes are overcooked though.
Food was below standard and service was poor. Quite a disappointing meal considering that we expected much better from a restaurant located at such a good location.
Pork belly skewers were great. Tempura shrimp was rubbish. The batter was really thicket and chewy. Tempura should be light and crispy. Pretty sure I could do better at home.
Had the tempura shrimp and pretty sure I could have made them better than this. The batter was way too thick and chewy. Very disappointing.
Food was ok. Flavour of the grilled squid needs some improvement. Service was slow and can be improved. Staff was polite, friendly and trying their best. Suggest getting at least 1-2 more staff on weekends.
Izakaya supposed to be tapas food but the serving is quite big! Loved the fried rice and udon, the cod fish was a little too sour for our liking though.
Quiet ambience with great service and thoughtful staff. Nice and fresh food prepared. Fresh sashimi, plenty variety of food. Love the smooth sesame ice cream.
Great location and fantastic food. Izakaya is all about friends and casual dining, and Tomo Esplanade is great for both. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's nice to see that they often tweak their menu to improve the offerings and overall quality.
Food not up to expectation. Garlic Rice, Miso Udon and Deep-Fried Squids all a disappointment :( Only the service by staffs are worth commending for
Food was good but service was EXTREMELY slow. We asked for a refill of our green tea thrice -- in the end I had to get up to get the pot myself before someone hurried to help me.
Tomo Izakaya @ Esplanade is always reliable when I need Asian food before catching a show at the theatre. However, the range of noodles and dons may be limited. Try to arrive early if you are in a hurry to catch a performance, as the man-power has always been low each time I visit and service may be slow.
- missing on some Japanese staples eg rice sets, chawanmushi - not kids friendly restaurant - there is no cooked bentos for kids; their bentos are raw fish only - teriyaki meat balls - it was very hard and the minced meat contains tendons - sashimi handroll - there were fish bones in it
Food was great, service staff was attentive and nice ambience!
Service was prompt and food was good. The asahi beer bottle promotion even allow us to bring home the unopened beer. Will recommend to everyone!
My reservation was not registered. With the restaurant. Fortunately we still managed to get a seat. Hopefully this confusion doesn't happen again for the next booking.
So-so experience only.....food is not fantastic, service can definitely be improved. The restaurant is half-packed but staff are not ready to serve, don't think I'll re-visit.
