Merchants Wine Cellar - East Coast

Representing over 40 exclusive wineries from 26 regions across Australia, Merchants Wine Cellars are spread across the city and stock the largest selection of boutique antipodean wines in Singapore, many of which have not been exported beyond the shores of Australia until very recently. But Merchants are more than simply a wine shop – each of their outlets is also some combination of a wine bar, bistro, and cafe, each with a slightly different character. The local Merchants down Joo Chiat Road is a new addition to Australian team Ainslie Kenny and David Elliott’s family, and is set to get the East Coast sipping on-site or at home.

The people demanded it, and finally Merchants Wine Cellars have delivered it: their long-awaited East Coast outpost down Joo Chiat Road has arrived, meaning that locals can browse the shelves as easily as they can order their wine online. As with all of Merchants’ outlets in Singapore, the Joo Chiat branch is packed with bottles shipped in from small, boutique wine producers at the top of their game, representing both well-known and offbeat Australian wine-growing regions. A highlight here are the regular wine tasting events hosted by the winemakers themselves, bringing the cellar-door experience to Singapore.

Book yourself and a bunch of equally oenological friends in for one of Merchants’ renowned wine dinners. The Joo Chiat Road outlet will be running these too, and with one of Merchants’ winery ambassadors flying over two Singapore sometimes as often as once a week, you can expect an expertly guided voyage through the synergy between food and wine in a relaxed and intimate setting. That said, the daily business here at Merchants Wine Cellars is simply wining and dining. Merchants’ Joo Chiat location naturally offers some incredible vintages (we recommend the Sparkling Monkey Nut Tree Merlot from the Kies family winery) plus a bistro menu for coffee, brunches and lunches alongside a glass or two of your favourite (or something as yet untasted).
