Laffio’s founders Doreen Sheah and Claire Hu have always loved to knock back a couple of ice-cold beers and take in some live music together, so they decided to open a place in Singapore where they could do just that whenever they wished, in a cosy environment of their design, and fling open the doors to friends and strangers alike, inviting them to join in the fun. Matching their love for chilled suds and rock music with a penchant for bistro-style European cuisine, Laffio bridges both desires – and it’s proving an immensely popular concept amongst Bugis’ lunch, dinner, and after-work crowd. Laffio’s frequent comedy nights see regulars and newbies losing their inhibitions and getting their giggle on with performers who know how to involve a crowd. Laffio is a buzzing spot down Beach Road after dark.
But Laffio is far from a raucous affair. The menus are teeming with understated and delicious dishes that take their cues from the cuisines of France, Italy, and Spain, but with a touch of Singapore fusion that pleases local palates and is a testament to the enterprising vision of Laffio’s culinary team, headed up by adventurous chef Firdauz Nasir. His world travels (he’s cooked and been a fishmonger in Australia, Malaysia, and New Zealand) brought him under the wings of some of the world’s most masterful chefs. Back in Singapore’s Bugis, he brings this experience to Laffio’s kitchen, where bold but simple creations like braised pork belly in Laffio’s home-baked sesame burger buns rub shoulders with more refined dishes like the dry-rubbed steak, served with burnt garlic, roasted vine tomato, onion rings, salsa verde and marrow sauce accompanied with chargrilled lime. Head down Beach Road and seek out Laffio if you’re in the mood for casual gourmet food, frosty beers, fine wines, and a good Laffio in good company.
