A hidden gem for Japanese omakase. Can ask for bigger rice portion for their sushi.

First time to visit Hatsu. The food is well balanced, good quality and suitably sauced.

Quality of the meal reminded me of Japan; chef was spot-on in friendliness/private-space ratio. Staff were very attentive. Serving size could be slightly larger, but small-medium eaters will be filled up with Hatsu meal option.

Phenomenal culinary experience at Hatsu. Don’t be put off by the fact that the owner/chef is not Japanese as he also puts the same attention to detail as a Japanese chef would.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here for lunch and had the Shoshin omakase menu. Chef was generally more reserved but will respond to queries if any. Atmosphere was intimate and generally quiet being located off town in a less popular hotel setting as well (felt like we were transported to the late 80s with the very old school Chinese vibes in the hotel lobby) That aside, really loved the shari used here which was not overpowering and complemented most of the fishes well. Since it was early Dec we could have a taste of the shirako, creamy and subtly sweet. As usual with all the many numerous names of the fishes I can barely recall now but most were good and the remainder are some of the more common fishes encountered. They took a photo and gave a complimentary tamago as a birthday surprise as well

Serving non-pretentious Japanese omakase in the non-descript Hotel Royal. The location is probably one of factors the omakase are not exorbitantly priced. Having said that, food quality certainly wasn't compromised. Went there for lunch and will definitely be back for dinner.

Different in a good way. flavour bombs all through the menu, yet the way it is prepared is thought out carefully.

Service is good and chef is very friendly. If you are used to Japanese chefs, you’ll still be able to tell the difference somehow… but it is good value and definitely not a bad meal.
