Singapore’s far western district of Tuas may not be associated with much apart from heavy industry, but all that’s about to change. Since the opening of the Tuas Link MRT station, our culinary expeditions have taken us further afield, and our most recent find is none other than Captain’s Table at Tuas West Drive, a restaurant that showcases the broad diversity of Chinese cuisine in one place. Sample dishes from skillfully created and prepared by Master Chef Chong Kwek Leong, a veteran of the local Chinese cooking scene.

Thinking about making a Captain's Table booking?

Ahoy, matey! Welcome aboard Captain’s Table. Situated on the second storey of the Raffles Marina Clubhouse on Tuas West Drive, this restaurant showcases an array of prominent Chinese cuisines prepared by homegrown Master Chef Chong Kwek Leong, a veteran of the scene with almost three decades of experience working in various Chinese kitchens around the world. Set against the azure blue of a swimming pool and a boat lagoon, it’s easy to feel as if you’re merely taking a break from sailing the high seas at a quiet port by the western edge of Singapore.

The menu at Captain’s Table covers all bases but to kick things off, we recommend getting a round of deep-fried king prawns coated with passion fruit mayo. Then we’re on to a nutritious bowl of braised hasma soup with scallop and flying fish roe, purported to nourish one’s kidneys, lungs and liver; while providing anti-aging and immunity-boosting properties. Other house specialities include the stir-fried sliced wagyu with black pepper sauce, crispy chicken with fragrant mixed spices, as well as the braised sliced abalone with black mushroom. Can’t do without carbs? You’ll simply have to give the signature Captain’s Table fried rice a go, or opt for the fried Hokkien mee sua to sample the restaurant’s unique twist on a popular local hawker dish. Following the recent extension of the East West MRT Line to Tuas Link, Captain’s Table is now within an easy reach from all corners of Singapore; so hold off the excuses about Tuas being far away and get down to this restaurant for a culinary feast around China like no other. Bookings are essential.
