They're having a Peking duck half price promotion and we ordered it. The first part - wrapped duck skin wasn't tasty, almost tasted bland (you had to put your own sauce/cucumber/spring onion so that's not the issue). It just doesn't seem to have been marinated well. But the biggest disappointment is how long it took for the 2nd part using the duck meat to be served. We opted for lettuce+minced duck for half, and other half eefu noodles. Both took way too long to be done and by then we had long finished all other dishes and were ready to leave. Having said that, must compliment that the minced duck was very well done. Other dishes - jade tofu was v good. The Passionfruit sauced fried prawn was weird, didn't seem to go well with that combination but maybe it's personal. Service staff were polite despite the obvious busyness and not bad service relative to what you get outside these days.

The Peking Duck offer is a draw. My usual restaurant. The glass Merlot is not so robust.

We always enjoy the dining experience at The Scholar because of the delicious menu - the black pepper beef is a favourite! - but just as much, the excellent service. Sebastian and his team are stars.

visiting over a long public holiday weekend is always the best.. it's crowded but it's tolerable. we had three soups (individual portions of hot and sour soup, hokkien fish maw soup, and sweet corn and crab meat soup) and they were all to die for.. yummers... also had the peking duck (so good - still one of my faves), beef - i didn't get to try it cos my fiance ate all, and the prawns with wasabi. yummo.. ended off with the crisp red bean pancake :P~ good food paired with great service :D

Food was great and really value for money. Service was excellent and staff were helpful and always ready to serve like filing up your cups with tea and replacing old plates with new ones. However there seem to be a strong bad smell when entering the restaurant. Ambience was average .

Service efficient, professionally courteous could be a bit more personable. Food quality is good, portion size decent. Salted egg yolk custard buns could have had more molten centres. Tea stopped being topped up voluntarily after 1.30pm, and one had to summon waiter. Nose levels high -but overall experience, pleasant and satisfying.

The food and service was good. They are pushy about reservations even when there are available tables and occasionally will put small groups at larger tables with other people even if there are available smaller tables. But other than that, the restaurant is fine if you know what you want and you make reservations in advance.
