ShuKuu Japanese Izakaya

This place was packed on a Monday night, which is a good sign! Everything was so tasty. Grilled beef tongue was tender and not gamely, mixed yakitori was excellent, fried chicken skin went so well with the cold draft Sapporo, and my friend polished off the agedashi tofu. All very reasonably priced. I am going back with more friends to try the items I missed on the menu.

Lovely ice cold beer and great finger food to go along with the beer! Super nice staff and great ambiance! Just make sure you do your reservation in advance to avoid long waiting time.

Was exciting to visit this place. Shown to our indoor table, but wife was complaining too cold. Managed to get a seat outdoor. Getting the attention of a server who can take order was challenging. They have servers who only serve the food and drinks, and a couple of servers who can take orders. Food was served very quickly once order placed. Nothing particularly surprising about the food. When we were ready to place our second round of orders, tried signalling the servers but those that we managed to get attention from cannot take orders. Waited for about 10 mins, so we decided to leave. Went to another Izakaya in the same area… Think the management ought to pay attention to this. If they cannot have sufficient staffs to take orders, allow customers to place orders via an app/webpage.

Buzzling restaurant that gives a great Japan atmosphere. Service was good when you can get them (restaurant was full). Hit and misses in food but maybe it's just our taste.

Must order the pork jowl! The place is nice, with an assortment of sake and the BBQ smell does not linger on you. However the food is slightly pricey!!

Waiters/waitress not being too attentive, been waited quite some time for them to come and take our order. Food is nice, hopefully service can be better :)

I know this is a very busy, popular izakaya. But I have been to better ones. The good bottle of 750 ml sake here will cost above $100. the food range is wide but serving is small for its price. I would rather they charge me a bit more short of ordering two of the same dish which then will be too much. So, I will not go back. I have better alternative.

Have not been to many izakaya bars but the food at Shukuu did not disappoint! Thought the small plates would not be very filling but there was plenty to eat and much more - each dish was cooked superbly and the wide repoertpire of the establishment cannot be overstated. I especially liked their chicken karage (fried perfectly) and the skewers (which had a great smokey flavour). Another highlight was the vinegared mackerel which was supple and wonderfully acidic. My only regret was perhaps ordering too many fried dishes and not trying out more grilled/skewer dishes. Haven’t always been a fan of sake but the easy to drink sweet and dry styles made for a pleasant accompaniment for the food. Will definitely be down to expand my sake experience and Shukuu’s vast collection makes it an ideal haunt. I recommend this place highly for groups of friends and couples alike, especially if the idea of trying a multitude of flavours and styles of Japanese cooking appeals to you!

Good environments to enjoy Japanese food plus food quality was good

The service was really good! The waiter saw that we were indecisive and decided to run through the menu with us. Food wise, thought it was average and a bit pricey as well. My favourite was the mentaiko rosti. They were really generous with the mentaiko. The wagyu skewer was also a fav! The beef just melts in your mouth. The other dishes we ordered were average and was warm when they came out. We would’ve preferred it to be hotter. Otherwise, it was not a bad experience :-)

Great ambience & fantastic food! Especially loved the Chizu chips, rosti mentai, tebasaki, sushi as well as the super fresh yasai miso.
